A house with its origins in place, not in memory

The choice of plot in Azambuja is not based on personal attachment, but on an objective reading of the area. A sloping plot of land, with sun exposure, dimensions and a surrounding area that was not yet densely built up. It was the starting point for a couple returning to Portugal with a clear idea: to build a functional, flexible space with a strong relationship with the outside world.

The layout takes advantage of the natural slope of the ground to develop the program on three levels, ensuring that each floor benefits from natural light, privacy and a relationship with the garden. The entrance is made from the street level, allowing a direct and simple relationship with everyday life.

Structure and Space

Between structure and the fluidity of experience

The middle floor houses the social area – the core of the house. The metal structure is exposed, providing the rhythm of the façade design. White concrete serves as a controlled palette, where Sosoares’ minimalist window frames stand out, blurring the boundaries between inside and outside.

The kitchen, dining room and living area are organized in a single, articulated but separate plan. The transparency of the openings allows for a fluid and open experience, and the relationship with the garden is constant – thought of not as an extension, but as a natural continuity of the interior space.

Living between jobs and breaks

Program and everyday life

The house was designed to meet contemporary demands for permanence. One of the initial requests was clear: to have a permanent home office space, autonomous but not isolated. This space occupies part of the ground floor, with direct access to the outside, guaranteeing privacy without giving up the light and the presence of the landscape.

On the upper floor, the swimming pool marks the point of balance in the house that is being designed. Surrounded by green areas and without rigid boundaries, it works as a free area – a place where time slows down.

Architecture as structure and permanence

Constructive logic and resistance to time

This house is defined by the clarity of the structure, the restraint of the materials and the effectiveness of the program. The visible metal structure is more than a technical feature: it is a gesture of constructive transparency. The white concrete guarantees neutrality and resistance, while the Sosoares window frames ensure the continuity of spaces – interior/exterior.

More than responding to a context, this house anticipates ways of life. Without resorting to ephemeral gestures or props, the project reveals itself through its internal logic, proportions and the silent permanence of the architecture. A house built from rational choices, designed to withstand time – physical and cultural.

Unique characteristics that set it apart

The entrance takes place without a gesture
At street level, without stairs or detours. Just a welcoming plane.

The house is organized in planes
Each floor corresponds to a function. Daily life is distributed vertically, naturally.

The structure is visible
Metallic, precise. It doesn’t hide, it doesn’t impose itself. It just builds.

White concrete is continuous
It serves as a base, a wall, a shadow. It unifies and draws.

The frame
The glass connects the inside to the outside. No frame, no interruption.

Social life is divided
Living and dining occupy different places. They talk to each other without mixing.
It’s in the center, but it doesn’t show off. It unites the space, it doesn’t occupy it.

Light is measured
It enters with precision. It draws time, without excess.

The outside is not an extra
It’s part of the house. It happens in terraces, shadows, openings – and in between.
