The volume inscription
House 34 appears as an extension of the experience already had in House 32. A restrained, rational gesture that values continuity over distinction.
The sketch reveals this intention: the refurbishment does not seek prominence, but rather reinforces the existing system, establishing a direct and fluid connection through the garden.

From project to housing development
The initial commission for Casa 32 called for a single-family house with a rigorous design and topographical adaptation. The acquisition of the neighboring plot allowed this logic to be extended, not by repetition, but by conceptual extension.
Casa 34 is born from the same language, but with formal autonomy – a second building that articulates with the first through scale, materiality and the way it is implanted on the site.
The proposal respects the identity of the two plots, but thinks of them as parts of a larger whole. Here, architecture becomes a tool for continuity, capable of preserving the memory of the site and, at the same time, activating new possibilities for living.
The exterior as a place of permanence
The project is designed from the outside – literally.
The garden is not a residual space, but the center of living.
A set of stone platforms organizes the terrain at different levels, defining areas for sitting, shade, dining and contemplation.
The outdoor kitchen – equipped, functional and integrated into the wall’s construction system – acts as the hub of life. Its strategic position, protected but open, allows continuous use all year round.
The tree in the center of the courtyard is not just landscape: it is structure and shade, it is natural architecture. It anchors the space, gives scale and rhythm to the occupation.

The connection that is the landscape
More than two volumes joined together, the project proposes a unique reading of the place.
The route between Casa 32 and Casa 34 runs through the garden, without any artifice. The layout respects the topography, follows the existing walls and reinforces the idea of an architectural system that is designed by adding layers – and not by imposition.
The result is a multiple living space, where interior and exterior merge, and where the connection between houses is also the way of living in the Alentejo: outdoors, in the shade, in the weather.
